Why does AI feel useless when you try it?
Because you were handed a brand new assistant with no training, no context and no idea who you are, then asked to be brilliant at delegating to them in one sentence.
Here is what happens to almost everybody. You open ChatGPT, you see an empty box with a cursor blinking in it, and your brain goes completely quiet. So you type something small, you get something generic back, and you decide this is overhyped.
It is not that you are bad at AI. It is a blank box problem, and two things fix it. Neither one is learning to write prompts.
Two: teach it who you are, once, so you never have to explain yourself again.
Talk to it. Out loud. Right now.
This is the biggest unlock for anyone who does not consider themselves technical, and almost nobody mentions it.
When you type, you write a sentence. When you talk, you tell a story. You say who you are and what you are stuck on and why it matters and what you already tried, without being asked, because that is how people talk. All of that is context, and context is the only thing that separates a useless answer from a good one.
You cannot really prompt badly out loud. It is very hard to do.
- Tap the voice icon in the prompt box, on the phone app or at chatgpt.com.
- Free accounts get it, with daily limits.
- Tap the sound wave icon next to the microphone on the phone app, then pick a voice.
- In beta, on every plan including free, and built to work best from your phone.
Do this before you read anything else. Pick one, put your headphones in, and spend five minutes telling it about your business the way you would tell a new hire on day one. Ramble. Go off on tangents. That is the point.
Then teach it who you are, once
Everything AI writes for you sounds like a stranger until you tell it who you are. Not a bio. The working facts a new assistant would need on day one.
Who I am
What you do, how long, your company, anything you are certified in, and the one thing you are actually known for.
Who I serve
Described the way you would describe them to a friend, not the way it reads on your website.
How I sound
Short sentences or long. Funny or straight. Then three things you actually wrote that sounded like you.
What I'd never say
The block almost nobody writes and the one that does the most work. Your voice is not only what you say.
Save it permanently as a Project, a custom instruction or a saved memory and you never paste it again. There is a free builder for it at jmanai.com/mefile.
Or skip the blank page and let it interview you
Writing four blocks from nothing is the same blank box problem all over again. So do not. Turn voice mode on, paste this, and answer out loud like you are being interviewed.
That last line is the one that matters. The corrected version is the one you keep.
Stop typing at it. Start talking to it. And tell it who you are first.
Everything else is details. The guide has the week-by-week plan and the five rules that keep you out of trouble.Three more free tools
